Assignment

There are differences between adult and child in the movie. The first one is appearance. In the beginning of the movie, students looked like just boys and boys not adults. After they talked with a teacher named Mark, they changed their clothes and looked like adults not children. The second point is speech. The students used impolite speech at first. Mark told them to use polite speech to lead them to adult. They did not want to obey their teacher. However, they talked with the teacher about various things. They gradually tried to use polite speech. The third point is to know between right and wrong. During a gym class, a student fought against a gym teacher. After that Mark told the student to apologize to the teacher. The student and other students refuse to so that at first. Mark said to the student he was not adult. Then the student apologized to the gym teacher. At that time, the student became adult. He realized that he did wrong thing.


I am still a child. I did my assignments because the teachers told me to do. If I did not do assignments, I would fall this semester. So I did my homework. Sometimes I do not have my opinion. They do something, so I also do that. In that point I am a child. In addition, I cannot control my emotion. When I was high school student, I always did stupid things with my friends. I cannot stop doing it. Oh my god! I will be adult to experience various difficulties and enjoyment. I am looking forward to day when I would be adult.

Good Presentation

I need many improvements that make a good presentation. First, I have to use easy and own words. If I use difficult or technical words, I need to explain the words. Second, I have to communicate with other students. When I talked about Trotsky, I just said words that I knew and remembered. So sometime I need to ask other students “do you understand? Or do you have any questions?” Also, pronunciation is important to people understand what I say. I have to pronounce words correctly. Finally, I have to be accustomed to talk in front of many people. But it is very difficult for me because I am shy. When I can overcome my shyness, I can do a good presentation.

After Reading

After reading Mohammad’s blog, I wanted to know why Karl Marx changed his mind when he moved to Berlin. After something happened to Karl Marx at Berlin, he studied at university. He became a doctor and economist. I was eager to know what made his mind changed. Also I read Ji A’s blog. I was surprised that Stalin killed people more than Adolf Hitler. Adolf Hitler killed so many Jew people in World War II. So I had thought he was one of the cruelest people and killed people more than Stalin did. In fact Stalin killed more than 10 million people. Tat’s very terrible. Now Stalin is the cruelest person in my mind.

Trotsky

The thing that I think funny about Trotsky is to change his name. Trotsky is not his real name. When he joined revolutionary activities, he was arrested. He went to a prison. He escaped from there. It is said that he used a name which was Trotsky who worked at the prison. If I were Trotsky, I would not use the prisoner’s name because I would hate things involved in prison. But he use the person’s name. it is very fun for me.

Dream Came True

One of my dreams came true. It was to jog on a beach. When I was in Japan, I belonged to track and field club. My prefecture does not touch the sea. So I always said to my friends that someday I wanted to jog on a beach. Today the dream came true! My house is very close to the beach. I went there on my foot. The sun was shining. I took off my shoes. Then I started to jog, listening to the theme of Rocky. The song gave me spirits. Step by step, I felt the earth. A few times, I tried to run as fast as possible. I was too tired because of lack of exercise. But I was so comfortable. I had a nice time today.

Penguin

Penguin is a type of flightless bird. It means penguin cannot fly in the sky. Most of the penguins live in southern hemisphere. They prefer cold climate. Only a few species of penguin lives so far south. They spend half of their life on the land and half in the ocean. Penguins have a short and thick feather. The feathers keep them warm in water. They have short legs. They appear to walk slowly. But they can walk as fast as a human. Penguin has a white and black color in their body. The color makes enemies difficult to find penguins. Penguins seem to have no special fear of human. So they approach people. But penguins do not approach closer than about 9 feet. If they approach closer than 9 feet, penguins become nervous. Penguin is good at swimming. They can swim 6 to 12 km/h. Also some species can dive nearly 900 feet. Penguins lost the ability to fly in the sky. However, they can fly in the water using the same motion as birds fly in the sky. I think penguin is very cute. Also I think penguin is one of the most popular animals. But they live in cold area. To survive there penguins have a good body and skill. So I think penguin is not only cute but also tough.

Which Do You Like?

I prefer the book to the movie because the book makes me imagine what happen. Surely, it is easy to understand about the story if I watch the movie. But it does not have more details. When I read the book, I have to think the details to understand. If I watch the movie, it is just watch. It is hard to read and understand the book. But I can feel a sense of achievement when I finish reading the book. I like that. So I like reading book rather than watch the movie.

Getty Museum

I went to the Getty Museum. There were three things that made me surprised. First, I could enter the museum for free. I thought it would really cost to maintain the museum. I wanted to know how to run there. Second, the museum was so huge. I wanted to go all area and tried to see all of paintings, statues, buildings. But I could not do that. I thought if I would see all of them closely, it would take two days or more. Finally, the landscapes from the museum were so beautiful. I could look over Los Angeles. I was so amaze at the grandeur. I took many pictures. However, it was little cloudy. So I wanted to go there when it would be sunny. Until then, I was not interested in Museum. But to go to Getty Museum made my thought change. It was really good experience for me. Now, I am eager to so various kinds of museums.

New House

Today, I went to see my new homestay house after the class. When I had a lunch with Eiji, I met my friend. In reality, I intended to go to new homestay house by the friend’s car yesterday, but we did not go there. So I told him to take me there. My new house is in the Playa del Rey. The house is very close to beach. Maybe it takes three minutes to walk there. The sight from the hill is so beautiful. When I viewed the scenery, I was excited. But there are some concerns about new house. First, there is the Los Angeles international airport near the house. I worry about the noise. If the sound of air planes is so loud, I cannot concentrate my study. Next, I do not know how long it will take to go to SMC. Finally, it is too far for me to commute from the new house to SMC. However, I am looking forward to seeing new host family.

I think playing card is important because we would need to relax. But everyone disagree.

I continue to insist that the item is necessary. And we decide by majority.

Included among crew are three engineers, two surgeons, some veterans and some scholars. We sailed Weddell Sea to explore the Antarctic. However, our ship was lost sight because the freezing sea gets tightened increasingly. We were tried to escape from the emergency. The ship was damaged by icebergs. The water came into bottom of the ship. Engineers were pump up the water. The ship drifted about three days at the mercy of icebergs. It was a long time too hard to endure. Finally, Shackleton ordered us to give up Endurance and it sank. We could barely get on a floe. But we were faced of terrible situation. There were no helicopters, no planes. Moreover, anybody could not receive our SOS. However, we did not disappoint expectations to Shackleton, in spite of the extreme situation.

If I Were

If I were the crew of Endurance, I would be excited and anxious about the voyage. There were no people who could cross the Antarctica on foot. If we could succeed in crossing the Antarctica on foot, we would be the first humans to do that. We also could be famous. However, the voyage was so dangerous and long. We had to sail for the Antarctica. Then we had to cross there. It would take us a long time to do that. Shacklton, the leader of the ship, bought Endurance for this voyage. The day when we started to sail to the Antarctica came. I would swell with expectation and fear. We got off to good start, but the ship was locked by the ice on the way to the Antarctica. Our ship could not move. Shortly afterwards, our ship was about to break down by the pressure of pack ice. The ice pierced the ship. The water came into the ship. We pumped out the water from the ship. We tried to help the ship not to sink for a few days, but the water came into the ship faster than we pumped. So Shackleton decided to give up helping and abandon the ship. We got off the ship. We had to live on the pack ice. I would be so tired and depressed. But we had to find out how to survive and come back our home. It was a start of long journey.

Speak English

After the class, I asked Susan how to improve my speaking. She told me a few things. First, don’t be shy of speaking English. If I do not speak English, nothing happen. Also teachers cannot correct my speaking. Second, talk with friends in English. It does not need to explain. Third, practice pronunciation. Especially, it is hard for me to pronounce R, L, and TH-. So I have to practice that. Maybe last thing is “copy”. It is very important to copy what teachers or friends speak. For example, when you watch TV drama, you try to speak English like actors speak. If you cannot understand what they speak, you should copy the rhythm. Also it is good to sing English songs. You can get the English rhythm.

It is hard for me to explain what I want to tell you. If you cannot understand what I say, ask Susan. Do not ask me!

In The Morning

I always get up at 6 a.m. I wash my face. Then I prepare my lunch. I spread strawberry jam, peanut cream, or chocolate cream on bread. I put the bread and two bunches of bananas in lunch box. Then I cook my breakfast. Of course, it is noodle. Sometimes I eat cereal when it is in the kitchen. After enjoying my breakfast, I brush my teeth and change my dress. After that I leave my house for school.

Classes

In Emilio’s class, he taught me many words. But I could not understand most of words. Because there are so many words I could not understand in the book which I read now.
Also it is hard for me to understand what happen in this book. In Susan’s class, she taught me about “transitive verb” and “intransitive verb”. It was hard to understand, too.

In fact, I almost gave up, but I want to feel “English”. So I decide not to give up. I think when I can feel “English”, the world will change. I am looking forward to the day will come

The Matrix

1 Neo lived in not real world but a kind of dream world. Neo did not realize that.
2 Neo's computer displayed "follow a white rabbit ". Then Neo followed a girl with white rabbit tattoo.
3 Morpheus directed Neo to do something. But Neo told Morpheus "I can't do" and refused that.
4 Morpheus told Neo a lot of things he could not understand. Then Neo was required to stay dream world or go real world.
5 The world Neo thought real world is not real world. In the real world, people are controlled by computer.
6 Test is to learn Kung Fu and fight with Morpheus. Neo also have to jump from a building to another one.
Allies are Morpheus's crew. They are in a ship.
The enemies are Agents or machines, which want to kill people who were against them. Especially, Agent Smith is strong.
7 Neo met old woman who was prophet. The woman told him about himself and his future.
8 When Morpheus was captured by Agents, Neo was about to go to help him. But his colleagues thought that if Neo went to help, he might die.
9 Reward is to save Morpheus's life. He is needed to find a hero.
10 Neo was pursued by Agents when he would go back to real world. To back real world, he fought against them.
11 Neo was shot by Agent and died. But he rose from the dead and became a real hero.
12 Morpheus and his colleagues got a hope that they could win the battle because Neo became the hero.

A boring Day

Today I woke up at eight o’clock. I ate a noodle. Then I fell asleep again. I got up at 13 p.m. and did the laundry. There was no detergent, but I did not care. After lunch, I watched the TV with my roommate. Then I was going to go to shop to purchase a bunch of bananas for my lunch with my roommate. But we could not do that because a woman visited my house. When we finished taking, it was dark. So we watched the TV again. When I looked back today, I realized that I spent a boring day.

Assignment

My roommate is cool, fashionable, and self-conscious.

Tsukasa, who is one of my best friends, is lazy, stupid, and crazy.

My grandfather is wild, funny, and he loves coke.

What I Learned

In Susan's class I learned about "topic sentence". First sentence usually has a topic sentence and 1 general idea. Also the idea is not a fact or detail. For instance, "My father is bald" is not a idea but a fact. So this sentence is not "topic sentence". Also I learned "series". It means "same part of speech". For example, "My father is handsome, cool, kind". "Kind" is the most important or biggest topic in this sentence.

I learned new words. "provoke" means to make angry. "Exhaust" means to make someone very tired. For example, "The Susan's class exhausted me."

It was hard for me to understand today's class.

After Read

It is interesting to view other student's blog because I can know about their life-style, how to spend their weekend, or how enjoy their life in Los Angeles and so on. Someone enjoy surfing, going shopping, or going to a beach with friends. That sounds good!! But I usually stay at home every weekend. I realize that I have to go out, talk with a lot of people, and make many many friends. Then I want to enjoy my life in Los Angeles with them more than enough!!!!

By the way, I think Jong Yoon Jeong is good at computer. When I read his blog, I was surprised, because "link" has already been made. I am not good at computer and do not have much knowledge of computer. I wish I could use the computer like him.

A homeless Boy

Clay was homeless. Because his parents disappeared, Clay decided to live on the street. He thought that Social Services would take him and find a new family if he stayed in the hotel. Also if Clay told the police or Social Services that his parents disappeared, he would be protected by them. Then Social Services would find a new family that lived with Clay. But Clay did not want to live with other people, so he became homeless.

my life in Los Angeles

I eat noodle every morning because my host mother does not prepare my breakfast. Also I have to cook my breakfast. I can buy cheap noodle at 99 cent only store. I often eat chili or oriental flavor noodle. It is good, but I like Japanese noodle anyway. I sometimes have “shin cup’. It is very hot and spicy. But it is a little expensive. So I can eat it sometimes.

When I came to Los Angeles, I was surprised because there were so many Starbucks Coffee in Los Angeles. There was no Starbucks in the city where I lived in Japan. So I had never been there and drink the coffee. I dropped in Starbucks for a cup of coffee with my roommate when we went to Hollywood. My roommate recommended me to drink café mocha. Then I tried it. It was hot and sweet. It was very good. I love café mocha very much now. I am so happy to know café mocha.

I love Japanese food. So I looked for and found a Japanese grocery store. There were many books written in Japanese, Japanese convenience goods, and Japanese restaurants. I often eat noodle or curry rice there. It is delicious. Also I found Yoshinoya which is one of the most famous and largest chain restaurants in Japan. I often ate gyudon (or beef bowl) when I was high school student. Though it was cheap, it was tasty. Yoshinoya is near to SMC. So I am going to go there to take a lunch once a week or more.
